“When you look at the history of this church, if the pioneers did not know where they were going and did not see the end from the beginning, maybe we would not have a school… and maybe we would not have established ourselves in the community as we have done, but the pioneers, and through the eyes of God, God knew what He was doing from the beginning…”, stated Pastor Walker in his sermon at the launch.

The church is commemorating its diamond jubilee under the theme “Mission Possible- Proclaim, Reclaim, Fulfill and Live”. Several activities are slated to take place ahead of the final celebrations in November.

President Walker encouraged the church to continue pressing towards the mark and soar on eagles’ wings, amidst the challenges.

“The temptations are all around… the net is set before us by the devil, but Trench Town today must rejoice because of the power of Almighty God. He reached down and He touched lives and men and women seventy five years ago stepped out of darkness into His marvellous light. I praise God that He reached down and pulled them from the net”, he said.

He added that, “if we have not learned the lessons of the past, then we are going to have serious challenges toward extinction in the future”.

In the meantime, Pastor Walker reminded the youth that they are called to be the head and not the tail.

“Trench Town is not a fly by night church, trench town youth have excelled. So, as we celebrate 75 years of progress, 75 years when all along the way young people knew that they had no option, there is no option to fall out or to back out or to drop out. No excuse not to soar like an eagle…75 years of success of youth ministry and I charge you and call upon you, young people, that you are a child of the King you are destined to progress, destined to succeed and the only person who can cause you not to succeed is yourself.”

The Adventist Church in Trench Town was born out of an evangelistic series held in November 1948 with Pastor Hiram S. Walters where 91 souls where baptized.
