The young missionaries of the East Jamaica Conference (EJC) ASI Junior Chapter officially launched the “Sound of the Approaching God” Evangelistic Series on Sabbath afternoon, May 4, 2019, at the Florence Hill SDA Church.
The series is currently taking place simultaneously at five locations spanning across the churches of the Florence Hill District namely Florence Hill, Lawrence Tavern, Cavaliers, Peat Hill and Tom’s River SDA church presently led by Pastor Brian Shaw.
Family, Women, Children and Adolescents Ministries Director of East Jamaica Conference, Elder Claudette Genas exclaimed delight sharing that the vision for a local series of this nature was had long ago.
“This is something we long wanted to do, my JAMU Director reminded me some years ago,” explained Elder Genas while motioning to JAMU Family, Women, Children and Adolescents Ministries Director, Dr. Lorraine Vernal, who was also in attendance.
“I want the children to be involved like when they go to mission for 4 weeks in the summer when they could be elsewhere”, she continued.
During the launch, the enthusiastic missionaries worshipped through songs and sign language and a powerful charge was given by three preachers: Brandon Daley, Sandre Rhoden and Sayeed Bernard.
EJC Executive Secretary, Pastor Linton Williams proudly commended the ministry saying, “The days have passed where our children just sit
in church and are not active, not being leaders...”.
“Our church is better and stronger and even more relevant because our children are actively involved in the ministry of the church,” Pastor Williams concluded.
In light of May being child’s month, representatives from the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) were invited during the program to share the importance of understanding the behaviour of our children and the responsibility that citizens have in reporting suspected cases of child abuse.
The Sound of the Approaching God Evangelistic Series will continue weekly Fridays to Sundays at 6:30 pm and Sabbaths at 9:00 am and is scheduled to end on May 26, 2019.
The ASI IAD Mission 2000 & Beyond is a vehicle where the youth of our Children’s Ministries Department, Adventurers Clubs, Pathfinders clubs, Youth Department and Sabbath School classes are given more opportunities to represent Jesus to the world. This ministry started in Barbados in 2000 and each year adds one island to its ministry. In 2012, the East Jamaica Conference joined the 12th leg of the Mission and has since ministered in Costa Rica, Belize, Dominican Republic, Suriname and Panama.
